D.C. Trip - Day 1

I'm going to attempt to blog about our crazy and amazing trip back East earlier this June.  It was very intensive...so I'll try to give you the highlights.  But first of all, a HUGE thank you to Ryan and Caroline!  This trip could NOT have happened without them!

Once we got to D.C. our first plans were to go to the Capitol Building for a tour.  However, Cami and I (mostly me) got lost.  I know...the Capitol Building is HUGE!  But somehow, we could not find it.  :)  So once we realized we were not going to make our tour, we just tried to find something that we wanted to see on the Mall.  So our first stop was the Air and Space Museum.  I have to say...it was PRETTY incredible.

An actual space pod.  One seater.  Who on earth (or in outer space) would get in this little thing and think they will land back home!?
War missiles

Space Station
I was honestly shocked by the fact that all of the space crafts looked like some kid's science fair project!  Seriously!  It looked like they were put together in someone's garage with a lot of duct tape and tin foil.  SCARY!
The Spirit of St. Louis
The first plane to go transcontinental.  Check out the rubber bike wheels.  This plane was followed by a train which carried all of its replacement parts.
Wright Brother's first plane.  Do you see the dummy laying across the middle of the plane?
Amelia Earhart's plane.
After we visited the Air and Space Museum, we finally found the Capitol Building.  We decided to try to go to the Visitor's Center to see if we could get a tour.

Cami LOVES it when I take random pictures of her! :)  We are waiting in line for the tour.
Inside the rotunda.  It was gorgeous and amazing.

The Supreme Court
Afterwards we went to the National Art Galleries.  I LOVED them.
Jackson Pollock
This room of mobiles was my favorite.  I LOVED the shadows.

It is hard to see, but this portrait of this lady was done with fingerprints.  It was like nothing I'd ever seen before.

The lighted tunnel between the contemporary museum and the classics.  It was awesome!
One of 1500 shots of Washington Monument that we took. :)
