I have been teasing Cami for years that she never takes me anywhere local. :) There are several spots around our area that I have never seen, but that people travel from around the state to visit. 9 Mile Canyon is one of those spots.
The first weekend of summer Cami told me to save Saturday for a surprise, and I was shocked when we headed out to 9 Mile.
9 Mile Canyon is an area filled with American Indian ruins. It was a BEAUTIFUL day, and we were lucky to eventually find all of the known ruins. Cami was smart and picked up a travel brochure with all the top spots.
I love this picture!
It was a beautiful day. Not too hot and still green. And the desert flowers were blooming.
Cami even made a stop to our local Tourist Information Booth so that we wouldn't miss any of the highlights. It definitely took us some time to find some of them, but we did it! We found all sorts of hieroglyphs and pictographs.
Each tell a story, although we couldn't always tell what. Some are signs of other American Indians of hunts, some are signs of beliefs, some of spiritual matters. It was fascinating.
This picture (with Cami's finger) is outside a living habitat. It was basically a carved out rock where a whole village lived. It was way to claustrophobic for me!
Outside the door was a perfect Banana Boat! Who knew the ancient American Indians knew about those!?
This is the major panel of hierglyphs in the canyon. Please click on the picture so you can see it large...they believe this is record of a fall hunt.
