100 Years...

When you think back over the past 100 years of history,
you can't help but be amazed at the
wonderful and disastrous things that have happened.
Just to name a few:
World War I & II
Great Depression
Dust Bowl
Civil Rights Movement
Invention of the computer and Internet (or World Wide Web)
JFK Assassination
Hurricane Katrina
9/11
Indoor Plumbing

But most importantly my grandma was born 100 years ago on February 1st.
Helene (just barely learned that was her given name) Zbinden Buck

Grandma Buck has always been a pillar of strength and dedication in our family.
I was lucky to have grown up just down the street from her.
I remember snacks after school at her house -
wheat bread, chunky peanut butter, and fresh apricot jam with fresh milk.
I remember playing Chinese checkers, Connect 4, and blocks on Sunday nights.
I remember watching my grandma read her scriptures and write in her journal daily.
I'll always remember the example of independence she has been her ENTIRE life -
before it was acceptable to be a strong woman.
And of course, I admire her feisty spirit and determination.

Here she is at her 100th Birthday Open House at Aunt Vellis'...
Isn't she gorgeous?
