Ogden Marathon 2011

Here are some of the highlights and lowlights of our Relay Marathon. I feel bad I don't have any pictures of Dad, Amber, or Lindsey running...but that's the trouble with relays - you don't get to see everyone.

But here are the stats for the Roberts Clan:
Total time: 4:50:30
Dad-o's Leg (7 miles): 1:03
Amber's Leg (6 miles): 1:10
Lindsey's Leg (5.5 miles and uphill): 1:07
Ryan's Leg (4.5 miles): :41
My leg (3 miles with the help of Cami and Ra): :41

I have to be honest...I hated EVERY minute of running before the big day. But the day of was amazing. I had minimal pain and ran a new PR - 12:54 miles. My new goal is to get to a 11 minute mile. We'll see.

Running with that many people and fans was incredible. I've never really been a person who ever gets many cheers from a crowd (usually I'm the one cheering), but I was completely motivated by that. About halfway through my leg, there were some fans who were holding handmade posters. One read, "You can do hard things". It was nothing profound, but it was powerful. I guess that is why people do crazy things like marathons - to push their bodies to prove that they too can do hard things. I ran (jogged) the whole way, and I was more proud of myself than I've been for a long time. And no one can take that away.

Oh...I forgot to mention two more highlights! First, Ryan (the scheduled one) didn't wake up on time (thanks to his phone), and so he and Cami ended up missing their shuttle up. I bailed them out - and drove them up over the No. Ogden Pass to Liberty. OH MY GOSH! it was gorgeous! Maybe because I'm not a morning person (so I miss many sunrises), but it was overwhelming how beautiful it was. Definitely a highlight. Second, Cami decided the night before to run the half-marathon just. for. fun! And she did it! She is and always will be my inspiration.

Great job Roberts Clan!!!
